Can't upload URL form Dropbox with video in mp4

Hi, I want to purchase the Studio license for 100 target images but I first wanted to check if this really works, I wanted to upload a video as an augmentation and I pasted the URL from Dropbox where I stored a video in mp4 format. For some reason the Studio is not able to get the Video, and I have the video as publiclly accesible by anyone with the link. Could you please guide me?

Thanks,

Nicolás

Hi,

We're also working with the Dropbox Public folder and put videos there for testing - can you please send me the shorturl to your Studio project (can be found in the Export Tab - 'Wikitude Hosting' Option).

If you don't want to make it public you can also send it to forum wikitude.com.

Thx and greetings

Nicola

Hi, Having a similar problem with a video from Dropbox which is public and also tried using a link from the same video loaded to tinypic.com. When I scan the target, either in Preview or after publishing, the loading circle spins and spins but the video does not load. I have tried with the same videos using full screen rather than overlay and the video still does not load. It just sits at loading.

Here are the two links;

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8hy486hy4cb7ly3/charlie%20test%20video.mp4?dl=0

http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2zey0jt&s=8

I would be very grateful to have this resolved. Also, do you have any recommendations for alternative video hosting? Are there any specifications that will ensure immediate laoding of video without the prolonged wait?

Cheers

Paddy

Hi,

You'll need to use a direct link to the video - we generally put them in the Dropbox public folder - choose the option 'copy public link' and then use this link.

I hope this helps. Greetings

Nicola

I think I know why it doesn't loads, Dropbox uses a Flash Player to load the video, it doesn't provides an h.264 Streaming solution with either HTML5 or in browser player. I managed to bypass this by using the Akamai direct link that Dropbox uses. Since Akamai is a CDN and delivers the content as an h.264 stream it's perfect for Wikitude since it just opens a player and reproduce the video. Now I can upload videos to Dropbox and use the Akamai links on Wikitude.

Thanks,

Nicolás

Hi Nichola,

Unfortunately Dropbox has not used a Public folder since 2012.

"New Dropbox accounts created after October 4, 2012 no longer include an automatically enabled Public folder because users can now share links to any piece of content from any place in their Dropbox by using shared links."

Hope I don't seem thick but I can't find any option to get a direct link. The only sharing option is to get the link I included in my original post. I presume that the Dropbox account that you have was created before they stopped the default Public folder.

Any thoughts?

cheers

Paddy

Hi Nicolás

How did you manage to get the direct Akamai link? I would be very grateful for your help.

cheers,

Paddy

Hi Paddy, all these sites that let you view videos (in this case H.264 encoded videos) need a streaming server somewhere, it can be the same server that has the content or a CDN. In the case of Dropbox it uses a flash player to get the content from their own servers, you can get the link from the page code. The same applies to YouTube videos, you can paste the direct source rather than the link to the player, it's in the code.

Hope this helped, best regards,

Nicolás

Hi,

I have managed to get a direct link and this is for the same video as before

https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/charlie%20test%20video.mp4?sjid=10&_subject_uid=311818679&w=AACnACsy2fCNJBd2RkUrsFCgh9Zt4xaGU-nXLfY9-aSdtg

I added it to the project and this time (for the first time) I was able to see the video in the Create screen and it played when I clicked on it. However, in the Preview screen the spinning wheel appeared again and the video has now spent 10 minutes stuck on loading. Tried publishing it and had the same result.

Do you think that this is likely to be an ongoing issue with Dropbox? If so I will not be able to use it as a hosting platform for my clients. Could you please let me have any details that would help me selecting an alternative video hosting site?
I will be very grateful for your help as this is getting a little frustrating.

cheers,

Paddy

Take this video for example, https://vimeo.com/121378956 , it's source is the following: https://pdlvimeocdn-a.akamaihd.net/04316/499/343057779.mp4?token2=1427776732_db6ab11cdc2a76bbc87d5866dbbe9d1c&aksessionid=bbe8628696d3e101

It's written in the code of the webpage. The same goes for any other video streaming solution.

Thank you, Nicolás. Sorry to bug you, but I looked at the code for the page using the inspect element function and can only see the same link (under href) as I get from the sharing option:

        <div class="name-col" data-reactid=".2.1.1.$8hy486hy4cb7ly3.0" title="charlie test video.mp4">
            <a data-reactid=".2.1.1.$8hy486hy4cb7ly3.0.0" target="_blank" href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/8hy486hy4cb7ly3/charlie%20test%20video.mp4?dl=0"></a>
            <div class="caption" data-reactid=".2.1.1.$8hy486hy4cb7ly3.0.1"></div>
        </div>

Am I looking in the right place?

cheers,

Paddy

maybe you can host the video on your own server?!

Best regards

Andreas

If we not have own server what is the solution for this problem please ?? I face Same prob and can't use my paid acount

waiting for replay ASAP ... Regards

Hi Hany,
you could package the video into your application bundle. If it has to be online, you need to find host service which provided a compatible, direct access URL.

Best regards

Andreas
