Drawable2D Z Axis translation

Drawable2D Z Axis translation

Hi,

Is it possible to translate tilted Drawable2D objects across the Z axis? A project we are working on involves augmenting a book and it would be really good to be able to have images and videos tilted so they are at right angles to the surface and then to be able to move up and down the page. It seems we are currently limited to the X and Y axis (in relation to the rotation of the Drawable).

If this is not currently a feature (looks to be the case based on the documentation and other forum posts) do you have plans to add this functionality and is there any timescale? It seems you can translate along the Z axis for 3D Models, so I would imagine this functionality can't be a long way off for 2D Drawables?

I've attached a basic diagram showing the kind of effect we would like to achieve.

Regards,

Darren

Hi Darren,

As you've stated correctly, a z-transformation is only possible with 3D Models, not with 2D objects.

So your best bet is to create a 3D Model from your 2D augmentations, projecting the 2D content onto a face of a 3D Model.

Best,

Martin

In that case, is there any way to project a video onto a 3D model that works inside a Wikitude environment?

Hi Darren,

Unfortunately, this is not supported, sorry for not having better news. We will add the z-Transformation for Drawable2Ds in our backlog list, so you will be able to create this scenario with one of the upcoming SDK versions without the "diversion" to 3D Models.

Best,

Martin
